Green Brain Associates was established as a small business early in 2006. Green Brain offers consultancy services in Environmental Permits, Contaminated Land, Site Waste Management and Training/Teaching.

Green Brain Associates is a friendly sole trader environmental consultancy based in Taunton, Somerset. We welcome clients across the South and South-West of England and South Wales.

Owner Barry Croft has a first degree in Environmental Biology and a master’s in Environmental Technology, is a member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences and a Charted Environmentalist. Currently he is studying for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and is an Affiliate of the Institute for Learning.

Barry has over 20 years’ environmental industry experience, including applied environmental research and a wide range of consultancy and remediation contracting projects, particularly in contaminated land, landfill gas and waste management. He honed his craft with leading companies such as AEA Technology, Mouchel, White Young Green, Vertase and Shaw Environmental.

Barry also enjoys extensive training and lecturing experience, ranging from formal teaching and private tuition in General Science at GCSE and Biology at AS/A2 level for Somerset Skills and Learning, through Environmental Health, Pollution and Microbiology at Degree level for Weston College and the University of the West of England, to a broad range of professional courses, bespoke mentoring and guest lecturing.

Barry has an extensive network of freelance associates from his many years in the industry, enabling him to assemble a tailored team to address just about any problem you care to throw at him!

Green Brain is a home-based small business so operates below the VAT threshold and has few overheads, allowing us to charge very competitive rates.

For core work you will enjoy a personal and skilled principal consultant-level high quality service - you deal directly with Barry and there is no passing off of work done by cheap inexperienced juniors.

For larger or more complex tasks we are flexible and free to pick and choose from an extensive list of Associates - mostly other small businesses - to assemble exactly the team you need.

Barry approaches projects from a trained environmental specialist’s point of view, rather than, say, a non-specialist civil engineer's or geologist's. He also happens to be passionate about looking after the planet.

Corporate consultancies don't like 'small fry' clients and charge them over the odds. For Green Brain no job is too small, and we particularly welcome work for other small businesses and for members of the public.

We are happy to travel and our client list extends to roughly a 150-mile radius - but we do aim to work in a sustainable manner, so particularly welcome work in or near Somerset, and to encourage this we reward clients within 30 road miles of Taunton by waiving travel costs.
